Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows

I can’t believe it. I finally know how it all ends. And I am not very happy. I feel the ending wasn’t really satisfying, I am thirsty for more. I thought this whole Harry Potter series was meant for children. It didn’t seem like it.

But suprisingly, I related more with the characters in this book. I felt some of the words in the book were meant for me.

And I know its childish, I know its juvenile but I feel rather nostalgic. Because I want more! I even had tears in my eyes this morning, which I am  not too sure if its due to the lack of sleep or if I am upset over the ending. I think the former was the cause.

However, the book is a huge teaser, in the sense that JKR doesn’t give you what you want to know from the beginning, she makes you wait. But wait, I did.For me the book had parts which were rather draggy in the first 200-300 pages.

But by the end of the book, there is so many questions I want to ask JKR. And I just wish I was living next door to JKR, so I can barge into her house today, and ask….”WHY?, HOW? DID THEY EVER? …….

I am reading it once more and that’s it. No more Harry Potter. Because it has ended, I know how it ends. Its a good ending, just I wish JKR could have written alittle more about some of the other characters.

And let me tell you JKR, is on a killing spree. I never expected she would kill the people she killed. Beware. MASSIVE KILLINGS!

Now why did I not sleep well? BLAME IT ON THE POPULAR PEOPLE. The nearest bookstore to my place is a Popular Branch. (I know I said I ordered the book months back, but its a long story, to cut the story short, My aunt made a mistake and I ended up ordering the book the day before the book was out!) $48.05 it costed, but since atleast 3 people will be reading this book, more than once, its a reasonable buy, so my aunt claims. Infact she’s looking forward to head down to borders to buy the American version. No wonder JKR is a billionaire! With people like my Aunt….hmmm tsk tsk. One book not enough ah?!

Anyhow, this Popular salesgirl told me the bookstore would be open at 11am on the day of the book release even though the Newspapers had printed articles saying that all bookstores selling HP books would be open at 7am. So I woke way past 7am, around 9. And I had an inclination to call up the bookstore and guess what? The bookstore was indeed open at 7am. I ended up buying the book late, ended up multi-tasking both at home with errands and only managed to complete the book  this morning at 2.30am. Great siah, If only I had bought the book at 7am, I wouldn’t need to be sleeping so late right?……

Madness

Dear Teacher-in-charge of 3E6,

ATTN: Student absent from class because of Harry Potter

As you can tell when you read this letter, one of your student is not in school. This said student is my sister. She has decided to miss classes for the day as the Harry Potter and the order of the Pheonix is out today and as an avid fan of the Harry Potter series she wanted to watch the show.

Should you decide to take action and award my sister with demerit points or some other form of punishment, please do bear in mind, she was under the charm of reading, a virtue you have tried to bestow upon your students since kindergarten. She merely wanted to witness first hand how the story takes place in reel life.

Thank you very much for your spare time.

And I hope I didn’t cause you any inconvenience. Afterall, you have one less student to teach.

yours sincerely,

s_malfoy

The above letter was inspired by my sister. She did want to stay home and miss school for a day because she wanted to watch Harry Potter. And ofcourse, my aunt didn’t allow her to stay home.

National Day songs

Believe it or not,

I first watched clips of our National day songs on TV in June!

There are two songs or atleast I think there are two songs. One’s called ‘Will You’ and the other is called ‘There’s no place I rather be by Kit Chan’.

Personally I find the melody to ‘There’s no place I rather be’ very familiar and I think its ripped off some other song. Overall, they’re pretty good as national songs.

Movie Review

One of my all time favourite actors is Rajinikanth! He’s the most recognisable indian in this world with a huge fan base among not only indians around the world but japanese as well. And maybe other races too, I would not know of. He’s more famous than Sharukh Khan and Amitabh Bacchan even.

He’s not good looking per se, but he has this charisma which captualtes every single movie viewer’s attention.

He has little children following his every style and movement and punch dialouges.

My sister, when she was 4, watched Baasha almost every single day, sang the song autokaran almost every day and changed her sunglassess every week. I think she had over 10 sunglasses at that time. Just because Rajini swings his sunglasses in a particular manner in the film. And till the age of 10, Baasha was her favourite movie.(I still think its her favourite movie, only she finds it embarassing that she likes Rajini and would not display it publicly.)
He’s dark unlike many other actors in the industry, he’s 57 years old but people donot care that he has heroines half his age acting with him.

People sing about him, people try to emmulate him and people worship him by bathing his potrait in milk and dolling him up as a deity.

And the excitement over his movie, even Harry Potter could have its run for its money. Each ticket for Rajini’s film is $15 here. Over 10 million ringgit has been collected in Malaysia alone!

And even if you hate him, you still will tallk about his show.

SIVAJI:THE BOSS.

I haven’t watched the movie yet. Simply because the cinemas are always house full. But I am hoping I would catch it one of these days. I have put up a trailer below but unless you speak and know the language you wouldn’t fully appreciate it.

One of the punch dialouges that come in this movie is:

Pigs, come in herds. But a lion will come on its own. I am a lion!

A comedy scene I like :

Sivaji: Mum, why did you give birth to me so dark?

Sivaji’s Mum: If you were white, you would get dirty easily, that’s why I gave birth to you dark.

Aiyah….I know the critics out there would have so many things to say, about how old Rajini is and how young the heroine is. The story line….blah blah blah…BUT THIS IS RAJINI’S FILM OK?! He hasn’t acted in over 2 years and we have been looking forward to this movie for like ever. And trust me, even if you criticize him, its not going to stop me from watching his movie!

And he’s still SUPERSTAR RAJINIKANTH.

Marriage invitees

Should you be getting married,

please for heaven’s sake

know who’re inviting.

And not just invite someone because you’re collecting moolahs.

I find it rather fustrating to attend weddings where I don’t feel welcomed.

Its like watching a movie in a cinema. Only, you actually feel alot happier.

You go, you watch, you leave.

Marriages aren’t supposed to be like that.

You go, you watch, you engage, you celebrate, you eat, you say your hellos, you give your moolah and you leave.

If I wanted to watch a movie. I would have paid $8. Some of the weddings I have attended, cost my Mother far more than that amount, which is fine. Infact, the taxi cost to attend a wedding costs triple the amount of one movie ticket! But the kind of treatment you get ……Its sucks.

Suddenly its the wedding season.

I think people are too eager to tie the knot especially today simply because of the date: 07/07/07.

And those who couldn’t marry on this day end up marrying a day before or a day later.

Anyhow, the only reason I have now to attend weddings is the food!

I hadn’t realised it earlier, even if its held in a temple wedding food just tastes so good.

Pooris, Biriyanis…..kaisharees, payasam…vadai, samosa.

I eat them regularly yet it just tasted so much better yesterday. I might actually start wedding crashing soon.

Off to a Malay one tomorrow. (I am only there for the food! Ya, like I eat alot……)

Oh by the way, 07/07/07 is supposed to be Earth day, so there’s a promotion going on where people are urged tp wear green. If you’re an environmentalist, or maybe not but feel like promoting awareness on keep our earth alive, WEAR GREEN.

Charity woes

Hmm,

You know our city is pretty boring in terms of scandals. We’re not like America where they have celebrities who go all wrong or politicians who have something to say all the time.

We donot have the royal family like our surrounding neighbours and we certainly do not have any natural resources. (Though, I learnt somewhere we have the best soil in the world, though it can’t be used for export buisness because we ourselves lack land.)

Like recently, the PM of Malaysia remarried, the Princess of Brunei married too and apparently Michael Jackson attended the Prince of Brunei’s birthday bash.

Er, in our newspaper, we keep reading or hearing about charity woes. Either that, or about the Mongolian girl who was killed by a malaysian political activist. We lack in dramas really, so we borrow our neighbour’s.

Some of these cases have been taking place for eons, I meant years.

For light reading, click the underline words, if you’re interested:

1. NKF scandal

Everybody in Primary School had to raise fund for this organisation. And I remember they give tokens for raising certain amount of money. And I would insist that I raise the correct amount to get a token I like and my family would give me the money. Now I think about it, I could have just skipped the part of raising funds, just collected the money and buy what I wanted….

2.Youth Challenge

Can you imagine? I took part in Youth Challenge in 2000 together with my second cousin (we represented different schools), Vincent(Vice Chairman) was really a nice guy, he would speak to all the students present, and 6 years later, I see him on the news for a charity scandal. I was hysterical, I kept chanting almost, “I know him, I know him!” like a mad lunatic. Don’t blame me, I thought he appeared in the News for doing something great! By the way I couldn’t find a link to an actual story about Youth Challenge.

And now,

3. Home for Elderly

I don’t know them. I am merely hearing of them for the first time.

But the links with all of the stories above is, they’re all about Charitable Organisations.

I believe or rather choose to believe the people involved in these cases did genuinely want to make a difference in people’s lives. Because I think some people did benefit from the funds raised. And I would still donate to these organisations if I was asked to.

Like one journalist from The New Paper said, instead of saving thousands, somehow only hundreds benefitted in the case of NKF.

Their acts are wrong and I donot support it but I pity the families behind the alleged criminals because they’re being dragged into the foreground. And its a pity.

PS: I had to be fair, I put up many posts about so many frauds and criminal activities in other countries, I had to share what happens here too right?

But not to worry green city, I still love you. It will be difficult to gain the public’s support in trusting these organisations again. But we have to trust them. Some people need kidney dialysis. And if not for NKF, where else can they find for help?
