Heartless

I told someone my friend’s father passed away suddenly in August, cause of death being a heart attack. And the person, looked at me and said almost immediately in a disinterested tone that the girl was 21 so it was alright.

I was so damn shock, I was pretty speechless and had to refrain from taking something to hit this person.

Is the lost of a loved one no longer shocking, depressing and emotionally painful anymore?

sad.

Marraige Proposal III

I am having loads of fun writing these.

Matchmaking Agency 21st century style!

If two women work together, there definitely will be gossip. If the two women have kids around the same age group, there will be marriage!

That’s my new slogan.

My Mother’s friend enquired about me, and she suggested I become friends with her son since he is just one year older than myself and he too studies in Aus. In Perth. She told my mum if we liked each other maybe we might end up marrying one another if not, we can go separate ways. “Just be friends.” she says.

Why must the word Marriage even come through a simple colleague to colleague conversation?

Ofcourse, my Mummy so smart! Muacks. She told the woman, I don’t like this type of suggestion.

ps: You now know why I won’t teach. The gossip you hear can kill. Smoking is less severe to this actually.

Grrrrrr………….

pps: I seem to only please the mothers of sons. Where is my queue of dashing princes ah?

Who would want to be friends with people who are so obnoxious and arrogant who think they are actually nice, humble people?

Argh.

I just had a real nasty experience with some people.

I think you can never describe yourself as being humble, if you do, you most certainly aren’t humble.  Because humble people won’t go around parading that they’re humble.

Talking crap, me knows.

Earthquakes in the vicinity

I don’t think a serious effort has been made in conveying news about the recent tremors felt in our country. Yes, we hear it on the news, read it in newspapers, maybe I am underestimating the whole issue but I don’t really think people are taking these tremors seriously. Our senior minister is concerned about the climate change, this means something! And yet I don’t feel like people are taking the recent environmental problems very seriously.

Maybe I’m blind, aren’t we all? But environmental issues don’t seem to be really news-worthy anymore at least here, maybe it never was. Recently our SM has had talks with Holland to build Arks. Cool no? But its not really cool when you hear, we could be hit by storms, tsunami-like waves, thus the talk.

Anyhow, the tremors are going to be felt pretty regularly for awhile and let’s just hope, all would be well.

On other news, I was offered a job by Biopolis, however due to some mis-reading on the investigator’s part, I didn’t get the project. They needed a permanent employee, and I had stated on my resume that I was going to continue studying next year so I just wanted a part time work. But the investigator didn’t read it probably. By the way, I was shock to learn people with H3s can’t apply for research work. Suprising no?

ps: The investigator was Russian.

pps: I am thrilled that they called me.  ( if you know how it works, you know what I mean.)

ppps: The project was on zebrafishes and transpoons.

Its like a real 5-star hotel for the elites, that place.  I felt like I was visiting a whole different country, with cafes that don’t resemble starbucks or coffeebean for once. neat, only can I work there later?

Unforgettable

If you didn’t already know,

“Meanwhile, three African Mahogany trees on the west coast of Singapore have been drawing crowds as their barks look like Hanuman, Ganesha and Guan Yin, a Chinese deity. One has two Hanumans side-by-side and another has a Ganesha-like head complete with a bark looking like the trunk. The Chinese believe in Monkey God. The bark of a third nearby tree shows the outline of the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin, according to a report in the Sunday Times today”

Its a news from last week.

And the reason why I am writing about this is because of this:

I finally managed to find links with pictures for those who haven’t seen it.

Read this one, its a blog by….I dunno who, but thanks to her all the same.

http://sheylara.com/2007/09/18/i-saw-the-monkey-god-tree/

Unlike the girl, I could clearly see Lord Ganesha’s form with his trumpet and while I am happy with the callusing reason, maybe its good to take note of this event. After all, you have no idea what to expect anymore. And its only right to respect others’ wishes and ideas.

The marriage proposal II

Once when I was conversing with a group of friends, the topic of who will settle down in life came up. And the consensus was, I would settle pretty quickly because of my family since they would start looking for a guy for me to marry. Actually, NO! They won’t do that. Because my family is pretty lazy with these things. Not only that, nowadays, we have to pay $500 to an agency to look for us a bride/groom. Siao sia! And besides, all types of marriages can fail, period. Later on in life, I don’t want to go….”My mum wasted $500!”

But anyhow….up to date, I have had 0 boyfriends, but 2 offers of marriages. That is the main gist of the whole blog entry. Most of you who know me will know how the first one happened,  last year, this family friend who is of low caste asked my Mum if I would marry her son. Now, the guy is a gem of a person and I treat him like a brother, even call him one.

Anyhow, the second episode, is a real classic. It happened at a temple, just yesterday.

I was seated infront of a goddess sanctum. And this lady who is my ex-tutor’s relative asked me what I had studied. I replied her, Bachelors with honours in Science. And then she asked what I was doing now, working or what? I replied that I was going to pursue my further studies overseas. And then she asks me, how old I was? I replied, 22. ALL THE TIME NOT KNOWING WHY SHE WAS ASKING THE QUESTIONS.

I genuinely thought she was just conversing. And her reply to my age was,” You’re too Young!” I tell you….I was utterly stunned. Do people get criticized for being young nowadays? And then she looked at my Granny and started talking about how her son was 28 and she has been trying to look for a suitable bride for him. And that’s how I found out about the fee for arrange marriages. Usually these people would look for brides through an agent. And the fee one has to pay is $500. There is another agency which charges $20 per girl.(I am not sure how much the girl pays.) Which means, every girl the guy is introduced to is worth $20. That means, I see so many girls and guys daily on the street, if I pay $20 per person I see, I will be bankrupt now right?

Anyway, it was only then did I realise that the lady was actually asking my age to see if I was suitable for her son. There is no way will I be marrying a guy who at 28 forces his Mother to look for a girl for him. Plus, his conditions are ridiculous. That lady told me her son wants someone who is skinny and fair. Fair being, one-two shades fairer than me. So I kind of more less fitted her bill except for my age. Thank God!

I came home and my Aunt told me that was how the indians were in 1970s-80s when she got married. Very annoying and irritating because the guys simply look at women in a very degrading way. Must be fair and Must be skinny. My Aunt then asked, what happens after child pregnancy and women gain some weight? These men really need a slap on their faces, and their Mothers instead of correcting their ideology are entertaining them instead.

So what if they were near-perfect guys who donot have a alcohol or smoking problem, who would make sure you’re well taken care of but are actually beneath it all only have a peanut for a brain since they want women to be a arm-candy. Someone who would look good on them. And if the ideology is  if the woman was trim, was pretty, her children would look pretty too! Seriously….Go look for PRO la! Fair, pretty and skinny! ASS.

What is shocking however is the fact that in the 20th century you still have people like this and its because of these type of people that my family will never ever force us to get into a arranged marriage. And even if they did find us guys through this mechanism, I am pretty sure we will hear only of the real good guys because my Aunt would make sure they never come near us.

I seriously wonder how my Aunt would re-act if anyone should go up to her and ask for our hands in marriage. WAH…..really poor souls!

Good news

For those who are still interested and for those who have stuck behind my back even if I didn’t,

I am eligible to apply for a Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology, and I am applying for it. I WILL BE BACK IN MELBY next year! woooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooo!!! But I still have no idea how the grading system works, what I can do after graduating…. Apparently my research project can be as short as 6 weeks! I was just dead scared they won’t allow me to apply because its actually for people who have graduated from a bachelor degree. And I had already done honours.

And the coordinator seems really nice. He was really encouraging and telling me to apply.

I feel I am back on track! Now….all I have to do is submit the application form.

Thanks everyone who remembered,  smsed, called chatted with me and gave me company till 12.30am last night/this morning. I feel very touched and blessed that you guys remembered it was my birthday. And for those who showered me with gifts, wah I love them all! Especially my new jewelleries and makeup. MUACKS AND HUGS AND MUACKS again.

And for those who forgot and still chatted with me online….I still love you! if not I won’t have you on my msn list.

Oh and I hope those who are sick get better real soon!

I now want to come online more often.

The application process starts now.

On other news, did you know that our  local politicians have spoken to politcians in Holland on how to build dikes. Apparently building one here will help protect our nation from global warming, especially from high/huge waves. I found that very very interesting.
