Well, well well….
Now that I have time….
What was the point of CHANGE? And what about my statement, that the first politicians were probably inexperienced in ruling despite maybe having theoretical knowledge…..
I once had to read on Socrates and Plato and decide who was the better philosopher of Politics. I didn’t see how it would influence me, since I didn’t think asian countries were influenced by either of them.5-6 years later, I still think they don’t influence asian countries that much. But oh well, if there was anything I learnt from that writing experience, it is that we could sit and discuss the Greeks or we can actually find real solutions to a growing problem.
The fact that some people,( no…statistics here, maybe I would look it up at some point.) would rather not vote shows that they don’t care about POLITICS,itself.
Talk to me like I’m a fifth grader!
That was the whole point of CHANGE. Do you expect a fifth grader to understand what a Greek had to say on Politics? I don’t think so. And that was the message of CHANGE. Not that there was actual mentions of these Greeks in the show.
I don’t think people are disinterested in Politics, it is simply because they don’t understand it and in the process they lose interest in it. Hunger is the biggest issue in this world. I think even in the most developed country, despite its metropolitan outlook, there would be people begging. Imagine the least developed country then….. People are not going to care how you PLAN to solve it, and would rather be interested in whether they actually have FOOD to survive. So despite having lavish plans to solve a problem, a politician might not be able to gain interest in his plans. The end results seems to be more vital then the actual process of getting to the end.
And the unwanted and often unnecessary attention surrounding Politicians during the elections, serves not only as a distraction but a major spoiler for the momentum that has been set in place. Resulting in repulsion sometimes among the general public. Take a look at America for example. When republican John McCain announced Sarah Palin as his potential VP, it seemed to me, the spot light on real issues were turned away. It became a race on who makes a better celebrity to me! Who is better looking, who has faced more controversy, who has had drugs, who has had a drinking problem.
What happened to the PLANS you had to promote? For awhile there, I thought we were going to see cat fights and verbal wars on a person’s character. But I think that’s not to happen anytime soon.*Fingers Crossed*
But I understand now why someone wouldn’t vote. Or would lose interest in Politics.
When I say you have to talk politics like you’re talking to a fifth grader, I literally mean you talk as simplistic as possible for me to understand. As a tax paying citizen, I feel I have the right to question things I don’t understand. I am not trying to irate the Government or feel the Government is trash, but its more of, I want to know why certain things have to be in a certain way. People who do elect believe in you, which is why they vote for a Politician in the first place, but when confuscions on why we pay more taxes for example arises, automatically we’re seen as dissing the Government.
The show CHANGE was revolutionary, in the sense that it is one of the few asian Political themed dramas out there. I am not an expert with Politics, I have no clue how to rule or run a government and I am not looking to take someone’s place. But I feel it is my moral duty to take elections seriously as possible. For it could affect my future.
I think what is important is for a Politician to be serious about his moral social duty. I don’t think a person with XYZ no. of degrees would actually know how to rule. Sometimes, experience outweighs the no. of degrees and could be seen as a driving factor to a successful career in Politics. In other occassions, maybe a fresh inexperienced Politician could be rather successful due to his/her “new” ideas. Its the same to any Job really.
Its when a Politician walks the walk and talks the talk that he’s respected. As long as he/she remembers why he/she was voted in the first place, the ideas they’re willing to bring forth to the table, I believe it would be a successful career. For those who do vote, these Politicians owe them a whole load of gratitude. Just like a celebrity, in this respect.
Okay, I might go off track, the more I type. So I shall stop here. I am amateur with Politics, have no interest what so ever in it, and I am one of those people who is very influenced by the news and gossips surrounding Politicians. But I do think I would take the Elections more seriously since there are people who want to make a difference in our lives. And maybe I might just read up on Socrates and Plato afterall.
