And I was born to be Her Majesty the Queen of hfgjfsaghsg land.

For the first time in years, I have heard the craziest thing!

Josef Fritzl, 74 has claimed he was BORN TO BE A RAPIST!

WHAT THE?

This is the guy who who imprisoned his daughter in a cellar and fathered her seven children And he has now admitted to locking up his mother until she died in 1980.

Why?

Because apparently he was never cuddled or kiss when he was younger by his Mum and was abused till he lost blood by her.  Pyschologically not sound?

Yes, not sound.

I hope he could have had a better life so he wouldn’t have done what he did with his daughter, imprisoning her with kids fathered by him and her.  Any mad scientist out there who wants to do analysis on inter breeding in humans just like how they do with mice? Go look them up.

Sick?

It gets sicker….

When asked if he got the idea to trap his daughter after doing the same with his Mum, he says,”To be honest I just didn’t think about (her) being my daughter.” “I saw her as my wife and as my partner.”

WHAT THE?

Om Lokah Samasto Sukhino Bhavanto

Happy Deepavali!

I love Sanskrit. I love it enough to want to spend a whole summer at an ashram to learn it. That is how crazy I am about it. But the problem is, I will be in a Lab for the whole of my summer burning midnight oil or due to the economy crisis, I will be burning the midnight water. But there is still 2009, 2010.

I used to love Deepavali when I was younger, who won’t? I still do by the way. Despite the crazy 5am wake up call we get despite heading to bed at nearly 2am that very morning, the Thosai we get to eat for Breakfast (My Aunt’s end up like rocks and we still eat it out of love.) and the Thosai we get to eat for Brunch (one with brown sugar and margarine and one with Sambhar my Granny makes) and Biriyani (Seriously the world’s healthiest Biryani, why? Because my Granny is a health nut! There is hardly any Ghee, she uses Margarine and not even butter to make it.) And the yellow packets we get! Actually I think the yellow packets are only given in South East Asia, its an adaptation of the Chinese New Year customs. My Mum and Aunt never got yellow packets when they were younger, probably because they were poor but mostly because it was never in our custom to give out money. But who doesn’t love Moolah? Give ME Give ME Give ME money after Midnight!!!! No worries! :)

And after brunch, we get to watch the Television, last time the indian community in Sinagpore didn’t have a channel of our own, but just for Deepavali, there will be shows running almost for the whole day, so it was a treasure to us to watch all the shows they had, all in tamil! But now with Vasantham Central has a channel on its own, its so so different! Imagine the pure joy! We get our own productions instead of the borrowed Indian Sun TV and Vijay TV ones which aren’t exactly the correct cultural adaptations of our lives in SEA. BUT! I still watch Kasturi every single day and won’t trade it, I won’t give up Sun TV for that very reason.

And we get to sleep. Or visit people. But with the increasing deaths and busy lives, our visits have reduced significantly plus, everyone is scattered around the world, how to go visiting?

But anyhow, Deepavali was fun! The new dresses, the games we played, the pranks we pulled (I think I have gotten into trouble for dirtying the newly painted walls at my Granny’s house. Naughty Naughty!! But I still get my yellow packet simply because I am the most adorable granddaughter/niece/daughter!! WHO IS GOING TO DENY IT??  YOU ARE NO LONGER FAMILY! -STARES-) And it was the only time in a year where we get to drink soft drinks every single day for a month or so? Why? Because we have it stocked up at home for relatives who come visiting! And we get to drink it with ice. So lame right? Soft drinks with ice was a liberty to me, since I had childhood asthma and was closely monitored!

Now. That I’ve grown and am away, I have to get myself my own gingerlily oil, make my own thosai (I am not that dumb, I can fry one!) and even chutney! I miss being a teen. BUT I get to drink soft drinks whenever I want.

Anyhow here’s wishing all the beings of all the worlds a very happy deepavali!

Green colour please!!

I think about 2-3 months back, I mentioned something about the I-phone. I didn’t describe it or anything, just mentioned it. But wordpress alerted me that someone had my post up on a I-phone blog.

So here’s hoping someone from the Nintendo Lite company sees this. Please dear sir/lady, I would love to have a Green Nintendo Lite or even a Gold colour.  Please donot tell me to buy a white one and paste a green sticker over it.

If you released one now, I can get it as a christmas gift, or if you release it sometime next year I can buy myself one. Either way, your company gets one more happy consumer.

Prety pretty please?

SORE thoat

I have a bloody sore throat. At its beginning stages where you feel or think opening your mouth could result in the soreness becoming worse. My nose runs a mile when I drink something warm or eat something warm.

I think I have the bloody cold or going to get it anyhow. I am saving my voice and energy for when I need it, that is for Tomorrow and for Monday.

And I am officially the finance minister of the WORLD. I have been asked about the economy or lack therefore you look at the grammar of the word.

While you’re talking about the economy, someone pointed out to me today that OX year, next year is going to be a horrible one. But whose fault is it? Its the bloody Rat’s. I mean come on! The Rat, the sneaky little bastard jumped on top of the Ox and tricked its way to being first on the Chinese Calendar charts. The bloody rat! And its doing the same thing again. THE RAT year which is this year had the weirdest turns of events, economically and the poor Ox has to endure what the Rat has done. Poor poor Ox! But not to worry! We’re stubborn and hardworking creatures, we’ll turn the economy around.

YOU BLOODY RATS! Stay away from us.

ps: Dear Rat friends, I don’t hate you! But my ulterior ego which is the hot and sexay Ox does.

Do I need a title for every single post?

This blogging thing has now become my habit, be it good or bad depending on how you see it.

Erm, I am relatively free-er, not completely since there is still one week left to the end of all lectures possible in my life and I need to do quite a few things this coming week. Not much of assignments or even thinking, I just have a few people I need to meet and a few experimental glitches to face or enquire on that could bring my project down.

Its deepavali next week, woo hoo!! Not the biggest fan of festive seasons, I mean you should take everyday as it comes. (I’m sulking cause I had the hardest time finding something new to wear.)

But oh well, its the festivity of light, destroy the evil!! symbolically I mean. And here’s wishing everyone has a great time and a very Happy Diwali!

This week, the question asked was : What will you do if you won a million dollars?

I would probably invest it, let it grow make it double. That is the most logical answer right?

But Spiritually, I guess give it all away! Wah…it would feel liberating. Well in my answer posted on the site, I said I will divide it four ways, or after thinking I have decided five ways among the elders in the family and AMMA’s organisation. Since she’s spent alot of time and money on me, it would be the best way to return my Mum what she’s invested in me. And I didn’t think I would use any of the money on myself. Now that I think about it, I could pay my way through a Masters Degree at some place in England. That would be awesome. But when I typed the answer earlier, I didn’t think things through properly and I can’t change my answer now!

At that time, this is what I thought. I’m young, its not like I will never ever see a million dollars. I am not saying I will become a millionaire in the future but I could potentially work my butts of to earn that money and that money I earn will be my very own. I can bathe with $10 bills if I think I want to. But with the lottery, its not hard earned, the money doesn’t really belong to me. And could be treated as such. I found it was easier for me to part with  that cash than giving $10 to the salavtion army from my own pocket for example. When I think about all the things I can do with a million dollars, I have one huge neverending list.

Lady Luck was at my side if I won a million dollars and I think giving it away to people who deserve it more than I do would be wise. So I said I will give all my money away.

BUT I WANT MY HYPOTHETICAL MILLION DOLLARS BACK PLEASE? I WANT TO BUY SO MANY THINGS…ooo I can even buy a car. You know that Friends episode where Pheobe donates the money for her wedding to a charity and wanted it back, I feel the same.

(s_malfoy, get a grip!)

Be careful what you wish for

You know how, I have been or maybe you didn’t know, I have been lamenting on how my life is utterly boring right now since my research starts in Dec.

Just when it was boring, imagine this:

1. I have an assignment + presentation tomorrow + a demonstration to attend at 8 in the MORNING!

2. I have a test the next day.

3. I have to send in electronic copies of my reports to a Prof who I’ll be seeing on Tues next week either today or tomorrow.

4. I have to hand it both electronic + hard copies of two reports on Mon.

Just when you wish your life was abit more hectic, I said ABIT, it gets a whole load busier!

PS: And you want to hear a not exactly good news? My name will be submitted for a Microscopy competition. Yes you heard it right, only I didn’t have anything to do with it, its part of my work yes!, but erm I didn’t take the picture. My name is being used because its a competition for students and my Sup thinks the prize money will be worth it!

ERM, by the way I doubt I will win. Not to Jinx it but I am up against the anatomy department, they’re famous for artistic microscopic images….

Now back to my test/assignments.

Catch you when I can.

xoxoxo, s_malfoy

Economy

Well, since yesterday, I have taken a huge great interest in the economy now.

CHINA’s economy is slowing down. As expected since one of its biggest consumers the America is now in the slump. But having said that, the economy is slowing down for them but it hasn’t dropped drastically which could be a positive or negative thing depending on which economist you talk to.

Factories would be closing down one by one and people are going to lose jobs. Brace yourselves people. For one of the ugliest depressions.

I must be the Finance Minister

Ah….

Either I update this site regularly or I don’t. I get provoked and disturbed less nowadays and that should explain why there are fewer enteries especially angst filled one. And somehow before I used to be a magnet for Drama, weird crazy things just happen around me, but it has died down.

Just when I thought people have stopped asking me random questions, they ask me one.  Like my title suggests, someone recently asked me about the Economy. I must be the finance minister or be in the running for one. How would you explain someone asking me this, “What do you think is happening with the world, with the economy?”

Er…..

I don’t know?!

And then I thought about it and worried how little I actually know. I mean, clearly something is wrong if people assume I know the answers to these questions and I don’t. Either they’re trying to irritate me or I am just getting irritated for the very wrong reasons and I should know the answer.

So I tried finding out more about the economy.

Apparently some big insurance company in the US went bankrupt, had to borrow money from the US government or something and that kind of backfired which resulted in the recession. And because Aus and Europe depend on the US economy quite abit, the recession has now turned global.

US dollar is down and so is the Aus dollar.

And this has caused people to either start panicking and lose jobs or if you’re as Kiasu as some people, you would have started to stock up US dollars and Aus dollars when you can. So that when the economy returns to normal, you actually benefit.

Apparently, this has caused money changers back in Singapore and Malaysia to stop selling US dollars or even Aus dollars. Because they lose money.

Now back to being the Finance Minister, I was very clearly provoked because of the tone of voice this person used on  me. But, I shall let it drop. The economy is an important thing and clearly I need to start reading and watching more News. I prefer reading and hearing about real life incidences than reading about the economy. Probably because I haven’t really worked yet and don’t really understand how it would affect me.

Ignorance is bliss, when you’re a student. But I am going to face the big bad working world soon, I have before but just not in a large scale and for that I think reading and following the economy should do me some good.

Only, how does the economy affect research or rather the science field? Does it affect the field? I don’t think so. But it would affect my lifestyle, the inflactuation of the dollar affects the cost of everything like oil, food and transport. While I think I will have a stable flow of income every month, I am going to save my coffee money because the prices are going to inflame.

I would never ever want to be a Finance Minister, the responsibility would be too huge. Hopefully the economy turns around soon.

Next time, someone asks you an irritating question, give it some thought, it might do you some good no matter how irritating and/or weird it is.

HOW OLD IS TOO OLD?

I think last year when I graduated from my dreaded honours, there was a special mention of a 68 yr old woman who received her fellowship. Now I have no idea how long or how someone becomes a fellow but it was pretty impressive, she had a page on her life story and accomplishments and what not. And well atleast I was impressed.

I am the first person in my generation on my Mother’s side of the family to graduate, and actually the third person to do so if you include my Mother’s generation while on My Dad’s side, I would be the last one to graduate considering I am the youngest in the generation though I doubt like my Mum there were many graduates among his siblings.

And likewise many of my Mothers siblings followed my Mother’s footsteps.

HOWEVER, my darling Aunt and non-biological Mum has decided to get herself a degree. You know in some countries, these things are very common, but for someone who comes from an Asian country and  who has severe eye problems and would soon to be 60 (actually in 5 or so yrs, is that long or short, you decide), she is doing an extraordinary feat. Obviously, she won’t get a page or special mention when she graduates and it won’t benefit her monetarily (as she is going to retire soon anyways)  but I am ever so excited that she’s going back to studying.

I am one proud niece/daughter…yes I have an issue with family trees.

And luckily my Sis would be graduating soon from the very same institution my Aunt will be joining. Can you imagine what it would do to your reputation if your Mother studies at the same place as you?
